Enjoy Chickens

Do you ever become obsessed with a craft idea? Heather and me? All the time. Then once you've finished said project, you find excuses to go into the room just to look at your work. Well, in my case I don't even look for excuses, I'll just stop in the middle of doing something and go look at it with no shame.

The start of the obsession...my mom made me a really cute table runner. At first I really liked it, but once I got it home and on my table I realized I LOVED it. I never pick out such bright colors and it just made me happy.

My obsession turns into a new focal wall. I had a painting in my kitchen that I hate(d). So now I will have a new wall, centered around my table runner. What the heck, let's mod podge some wooden letters with coordinating papers.

Hmm...I need more, pizazz. I turn to my new favorite decor item, CHICKENS (more on them later)! And my new favorite crafty material, FELT. Using the same funky colors I put together some art for my new wall.

And, here you have it!

Craft-a-thon

decoupage frames

These are unfinished wood frames from Roberts craft. They are 12x12 so they fit scrap book papers perfectly. We just decoupaged these frames added paper, put another layer of decoupage on top. Then add embellishments like rhinestones and trims to make them 3-D and pretty. Fast craft, and great gift idea.

TuTu cute!

Okay, here are some cutie, patutie tutus! We got about a yard and half of tulle. Folded it in thirds length wise, then put flower petals inside. We serged the ends adn top together, then put in the elastic. The flowere are hot glued to ribbon, then sewn through the elastic waist band. I know these are horrible directions, and if I ever make another I will take more photos and give you step by step directions.

Here is another craft addiction...decoupage...fun for all seasons! We found these fantabulous recipe boxes at a craft store in cali a couple years ago...we made several of these too, great gifts. We just used cute scrappy papers and decoupaged them on, and trims like ric rac and pom poms... I think glue guns worked best for the trim. Fun craft :)

Pretty purses...

I found a little stash of photos of crafts that Megan and I made a couple years ago. See we go into phases with our crafting. Actually addictions would be a better word. When we made purses, me and megan and my mom all went crazy. One weekend we made about 15 purses. We asked our Dad which one was the very cutest of all. He said "I won't do that, that is mean, but I will rank them from best to worst?" I don't know his reasoning there, but we let him rank them. If I remember correctly, Megans were in the top positions, and moms were in the middle, and mine were mostly in the bottom...sad!!! Anyhow, here are just some of the many many we made.

My beautiful living room

This is my living room. It seems like every room in my house is "almost" done, and I never seem to finish. So there are definitely things I want to change about this room, but I am mostly happy with it.

Okay, here goes. Sofa and love seat from a discount furniture store for $600. The pillows around the room and table runner all sewn by me or my mommy. These are somethings I am wanting to update a little, but who knows when I will get to it. The coffee table was purchased for $80 (regularly $500) from the RC willy outlet. It is solid wood and it was stained dark, and I go and paint it white. I haven't liked the white paint too much, and now I wish it was dark to go with our new piano.

Fabric for window panels $3 per yard. (wish I got more.) Molding around the room, fab husband. Plus cost from home depot for supplies.

Okay, this is a dresser, but it worked so well in this room. Cost $150 from RC Willey outlet (steal!). I want to change the knobs out to crystal one day... Frames on top, Hobby Lobby. Plus one I decoupaged. I made the frame on the wall, and I am not super happy with it. (and I know it needs to be repositioned...again one day...

Chairs on each side of the piano, $45 each. RC willey. Regularly over @100 each. I painted them and recovered in prettier fabrics.

Piano...the most expensive thing we have bought in our married life (besides home and cars.) Wall art, all three peices from TJ maxx. I paid $50 for the center roses, and $15 each for the iron work on the sides.

And is that a little tiny baby on top? Why yes it is, my sweet brand new baby...priceless....(ahhh, couldn't see that one coming. No seriously, my two year old is for free, but this little guy, he is not for sale!

Azure, Barnwood and Terra Cotta

This is apparently my new favorite color combination. Looking at this fabric makes me happy. I also decided I'm done with brown as my go-to neutral and in with gray. Could I be more trendy? I picked up a few of these fabrics, Deer Valley by Joel Dewberry for Free Spirit to do my room in and I am so excited! I love everything about them, especially the second print down is fabulous, birds and all. What color combinations are you guys loving? I feel really trendy because I used to hate orange, but now, of course, I love it :) Burnt orange though, does that count?

Hat maker hat maker..

What "in" courages us? Creating with our own 2 hands.
I went to visit Heather in Utah for 7 weeks and became a hat maker such as she is. How I adore knitting tiny baby hats!! Recently I had two friends have baby showers for sweet baby girls, and here are two hats I made from the same yarn. I love how they turned out!


Isn't she so sweet?!? Okay, it's my son. I don't have a baby girl :( When I was taking these photos, my husband opened the window and yelled from our room "Don't worry Meg, one day you'll have a baby girl." He better be right. I hope he doesn't mind these are in blog land. Sorry Oliver, but you are pretty adorable.

And speaking of babies, my partner in designing, quilting, crafting, gossiping, Heather had her 5th child, July 23rd. Her ONLY baby boy, Weston.

We're crazy

We're crazy, it's official. I have to say, the patterns from the ladies of LizzieB Cre8tive really were the first quilts we saw and thought that quilting isn't all for grandma's. The first applique project we EVER started, thanks to Heather, is their pattern Piece, Love and Applique. Notice, I didn't say finish. I have a few squares done, here they are:



Like I said, it's the first applique and one of the first quilts I started doing! Since starting this I've probably made 15 quilts in between, so who knows when I'll finish this.

The BEST part, Heather decided to do the applique all by hand. Seriously.

Plexi glass frame project...

I made this without my hubby. Go check out shanty 2 chic for more made without hubby projects.This isn't much of a how to, because unless you are good with tools, it isn't the easiest. All it is is a large piece of MDF, and the edges are routed. Then you paint the wood and sand it for the distressed effect. Next is a piece of Plexiglas (purchased at home depot) and this is cut down a little smaller than your wood. Make a cute collage of your photos, and then put the Plexiglas on top, and secure it to the wood with little screws, with little caps, so you can easily remove the Plexiglas to change out photos. Then just a cute vinyl lettering saying at the bottom. It was a fun and pretty easy project. It is in my craft room. which I still plan to reveal, but it is never clean enough for photos, but when it is, you guys should love it. Hopefully as much as me!

I need a new craft like I need a hole in the head!

First off, an apology. Megan and I have been on vacation. We have successfully taken most of June and July off. Megan has been here in Utah and we just tried to get some hanging out sister time in. So if we have any fans out there still, we apologize for being such slackers. We will both be getting back to real life soon which will include plenty of crafting blogs hopefully you will enjoy.

I am almost embarrassed to post this. See crafting is like a real life addiction to me. I get an idea in my head and I have to get it immediately. When we started to knit a couple months ago, I had to get going right away. I needed the right needles, I wasn't even patient to order online, and called all the local shops for the right items. (you guys are about to see some CUTE stuff we have knitted.) but back to my addiction. I have seen these cute charms around at local boutiques. They are adorable and overpriced (especially if you are a crafter and everything you see you think how you can make it cuter and cheaper.) So I wanted to make some. I figured I could find out how to make it, because I remember making a stained glass airplane thing in 7th grade art. So I knew I had soldered before and it wasn't that hard. After hours of research online to figure out how and best places for supplies, I made my orders and got my insides ready to go.
Meg and I also are digital scrapbookers. (LOVE IT). So the insides were all created with digital files and photoshop. Then we customized them with our personal photos. And added some cute glitter. I had a few failed attempts, but in the end I am VERY happy. These are not hard. And I have already made gifts for friends and family. If you have any questions, email me or leave me a comment. I am not sure what the interest will be on me getting more specific on tutorials or links. Anyhow, hope you all like my necklace. It makes me happy to see my little girlie's around my neck.
